The last coat, which decides whether the work looks finished.
Paint is the finish the eye settles on. A neatly fitted frame in sloppily painted reveals reads as poor work, even though the fault is not in the frame.
Outside, paint has a second job. It is the protection for the timber, and painting left undone costs you a window frame later.

Inside
Walls, ceilings, frames and doors, after the renovation or as a job on its own.
Outside
Frames, fascias and external timber, including making good small areas of wet rot.
Preparation
Sanding, filling and priming. This is where the difference between two years and eight years sits.
Wet rot repair
Cutting out affected timber and splicing in before any paint goes on.
